A young man has died after an ATV buggy rolled during a nighttime ride along a Queensland beach.

The 25-year-old Malanda man was a passenger in the vehicle when it crashed about 2.15am on Toolakea Beach in Townsville.

He died at the scene.

The driver, a 23-year-old Hermit Park man, was transported to the Townsville University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
