More than 1000mm already and still so much more rain and flooding to come for Queensland
Rain continues to fall over the drenched northern Queensland landscape with mind boggling totals already recorded, and more rain still to come.
The biggest total so far is 1598mm in Cardwell.
That amount has fallen over the course of a week, and really stands out when you compare it to the average rain in these capital cities over the entire month:

This is the dry time of year for Adelaide and Perth, but it is Brisbane’s wettest part of the year. Yet Cardwell recorded ten times more rain than Brisbane usually sees in the entire month of February.
While the heaviest falls from the weekend and earlier this week have moderated, there is still so much more rain to come over the next week. Parts of the coast already hit hard, still have 200 to 300 mm in store, if not more.
The driver of this weather pattern is likely to linger in the Australian region for the rest of February, enhancing our tropical weather. So, there may still be a lot of rain to come for those in the north of the country.
That isn’t great news for an already flooded part of Australia — all this area is under Flood Watch (a heads up that the catchment is likely to receive flooding in the future) or Flood Warning (flooding is now occurring) - with Major Flooding from Carwell to Ingham.
