A child has been hospitalised after being mauled by a dog in a central Queensland town.

Emergency services were called to a property in Dysart, a rural mining town in the Isaac region, south of Mackay, just after 10.30am on Tuesday, following reports of a serious dog attack.

The child, believed to be a toddler, sustained a significant laceration to her face, according to a Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson.

She was transported to Dysart Hospital in a stable condition.

Local media outlet The Daily Mercury reported that the incident occurred while the child was at a family residence.

The breed of the dog and the circumstances surrounding the attack have not been publicly confirmed.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
