A Sydney man accused of causing his new wife’s death in a golf buggy crash during their honeymoon is on trial in a Queensland court.

Robbie Awad was charged over the death of 29-year-old Marina Hanna on Hamilton Island in June 2022.

They were travelling on the buggy when it crashed on Whitsunday Blvd, causing Hanna critical injuries.

She died at the scene.

Awad, who was aged 30 when he was charged, appeared in Proserpine Magistrates Court on Thursday to fight a charge of driving without due care and attention causing death.

The hearing, before Magistrate Kerrie O’Callaghan, is listed to run for four days.
