Surfers Paradise: Woman fights for life after truck rollover crash creates Gold Coast traffic chaos

A woman was left with severe head injuries after a horrific crash left a truck on its side and caused traffic chaos for morning commuters on the Gold Coast.

A woman is fighting for her life at Gold Coast University Hospital after a severe collision between a car and a truck at the intersection of Fernie Avenue and Beach Road in Surfers Paradise.

A woman is fighting for life after a horrific crash left a truck on its side and caused traffic chaos for morning commuters on the Gold Coast.

Emergency services were called to the scene after two vehicles collided at Surfers Paradise in the early hours of Monday morning.

The incident occurred at around 4.20am, after a sedan travelling south along Ferny Avenue hit a truck at the intersection of Beach Road.

The force of the collision flipped the truck and left the female driver of the car trapped inside the vehicle, suffering severe head injuries.

Police and Fire Rescue worked for some time to remove the woman before she was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in a life-threatening condition.

The male truck driver sustained minor injuries and was also transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

A Gold Coast police spokesman said officers were diverting northbound traffic through to Peninsular Drive.

“All northbound lanes, as well as turning lanes in all directions, are currently blocked.

“Southbound access is down to one lane.

“Traffic diversions are in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area.”

The intersection is expected to be affected for some time as investigators try to piece together the cause of the crash.

“Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or may have vision to assist the investigation is asked to come forward,” a police statement said.
