Teenager to stand trial over alleged murder of Queensland grandmother Vyleen White

A 17-year-old boy has been ordered to stand trial over the alleged murder of Queensland grandmother Vyleen White.
The teenager is accused of stabbing the 70-year-old to death during a carjacking at Redbank Plains Shopping Centre on February 3, 2024.
White’s car was stolen and later abandoned nearby and the boy, then 16, was arrested two days later along with several other teenagers.

He appeared via video link for a committal hearing at Ipswich Children’s Court on Friday, with the magistrate ruling there was sufficient evidence to send the case to trial.
A total of 120 statements and 147 exhibits have been submitted to the court.

Outside court, the teenager’s lawyer Farshad Sarabi said no pleas have yet been entered and are not required until the case reaches the Supreme Court.
“There are no winners or losers,” Sarabi said.
“Everyone’s a loser in these circumstances. It’s just really sad for everybody.”
The case will be heard in the Supreme Court at a later date.
