Toowoomba house fire: Mother charged over blaze that killed three children

A vigil was held after a fire killed a nine-year-old and critically injured two girls.

A 36-year-old mother has been charged with murder over the deaths of her three young children after they died in a horrific house fire, with police alleging it was a domestic violence incident.

The home in suburban Harristown in Toowoomba, about 130km west of Brisbane, became engulfed in flames around 12.30am on May 7.

Following a search of the property, a body believed to be of a 9-year-boy, was discovered inside near the door. A 4-year-old girl and 7-year-old girl pulled from the home died at Queensland Children’s Hospital later that day from injuries sustained in the fire.

A 34-year-old man underwent surgery for serious injuries to his arm, while the 18 year old man and 11-year-old boy were treated for minor injuries after escaping the worst of the blaze.

Detectives have charged the 36-year-old woman with three counts of murder (Domestic Violence offence), three counts of attempted murder (Domestic Violence offence) and one count of arson.

The 36-year-old woman is in a critical condition and is under police guard in hospital.

The matter is due to be mentioned in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday and adjourned to a future date.

Police say they are not looking for anyone else in connection to the incident.
