A Victorian man has died after smashing into a tree on a Queensland road.

The 56-year-old man was driving a ute along Blacksnake Rd in Kilkivan, near Gympie, when he left the road and crashed into a tree about 7pm on Sunday.

The man, from Victoria, was the sole occupant of the car and declared dead at the scene.

Queensland Police said a forensic crash unit was investigating the circumstances that led to the crash.

Anyone with information on the crash or dashcam footage is asked to contact police.
