Woman charged with additional serious assault offence after alleged pram attack in Maryborough, Queensland

Police are investigating after an elderly woman was knocked over in a disturbing encounter in Maryborough.

A woman accused of knocking an elderly stranger to the ground with a pram in a confronting CBD incident has been hit with an additional, more serious charge.

Police allege the incident unfolded on Adelaide St in Maryborough, Queensland, about 9.25am on Monday, when a woman pushing a pram shoved another woman, causing her to fall.

CCTV shows the moment the pram makes contact with the older woman, sending her to the ground in front of nearby shops.

The alleged victim, a 77-year-old Maryborough woman, suffered a sprained wrist.

A 42-year-old woman was initially charged with committing public nuisance (violent). Police have now confirmed she has been further charged with serious assault following ongoing investigations.

Police thanked members of the public who came forward with information after the footage circulated widely.

“Police would like to thank the community for their assistance,” a spokesperson said.

The woman has been remanded in custody and is due to face Maryborough Magistrates Court on April 30.
