A man has turned up at a strangers house on a quiet street covered in blood and with gun shot wounds , with police now hunting for a gunman on the run.

Police were called to Croft Crescent in Reservoir on Tuesday after receiving reports of a man with gunshot wounds.

The 54-year-old man with gunshot wounds knocked on a strangers door in the northern Melbourne suburb screaming for help.

The man in the home rang emergency services who took the injured man to hospital.

He is understood to remain in a serious condition.

“Police have cordoned off the area and a crime scene has been established,” a Victoria Police spokesperson said.

“Officers are still working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
