A bus driver has been taken to hospital with stab wounds and a knife-wielding young male is on the run after a shocking incident on the Gold Coast.

Police were called to Robina Town Centre shopping centre around 1pm on Wednesday following reports of a man being stabbed in the hip.

Emergency services found a 60-year-old male bus driver with stab wounds on Robina Town Centre Drive.

Queensland Ambulance services confirmed the bus driver was treated for non-threatening stab wounds to his lower body.

The 60-year-old was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Police are urgently searching for the young male suspect following the incident.

“Initial information indicates the offender has left the scene,” a QPS spokesperson said.

A crime scene has been established while the investigations continue.
