Second clip surfaces of US influencer Sam Jones picking up an echidna as her visa is reviewed
A second video clip has emerged of US influencer Samantha Strable — who goes by the name Sam Jones online — this time picking up an echidna.
It comes as her visa hangs in the balance after another video showed her ripping a baby wombat from its mother for a photo opportunity.
The video caused widespread outrage across Australia.

“What kind of crazy creature is this?” Strable says in the footage.
“Well, it’s an echidna, one of only two egg-laying mammal species in the world.”
A fence which can be seen in the clip indicates she might have been filming at a wildlife park.

Strable, who calls herself a “wildlife biologist and environmental scientist”, copped the ire of the country this week when she shared a video of herself picking up a baby wombat from its mother.
Both wombats were clearly distressed.
In the video, Strable runs toward the camera holding the wombat as a man recording says: “Look at the mother, it’s chasing after her.”
Holding the hissing animal up for the camera, Strable then says: “I caught a baby wombat. Mumma’s right there, she is p*****, let’s let him go.”
The marsupial was eventually released back onto the road.
In a caption Jones said it was a “dream” to hold a wombat.
Strable later defended her actions and called out the “hate” in a follow-up video on her TikTok account.
“Fellow fans and haters, you have all gone crazy ... the hate is currently too much for me to handle, you guys are insane,” Strable, from the US state of Montana, wrote.
“I get hundreds of death threats for picking up an animal? WTF ... imagine someone just goes up to your child and curses at them? Let’s have some respect.
“Social media is getting too much right now, I might take a small break. Love my fans.”
Australian immigration officials are currently reviewing Strable’s visa conditions.
“Given the level of scrutiny that will happen if she ever applies for a visa again, I’ll be surprised if she even bothers,” Immigration Minister Tony Burke said.
“I can’t wait for Australia to see the back of this individual. I don’t expect she will return.”
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also took aim at the influencer.
“To take a baby wombat from its mother, and clearly causing distress for the mother, is just an outrage,” Albanese said, describing the marsupials as “gentle, lovely creatures”.
“I suggest to this so-called influencer, maybe she might try some other Australian animals. Take a baby crocodile from its mother and see how you go there.
“Take another animal that can actually fight back rather than stealing a wombat from its mother.”
