Two men have been arrested and more than $630,000 in illegal goods have been seized by Queensland Police during safety patrols amid ex Cyclone Alfred.

Queensland Police officers were conducting “proactive patrols focused on community safety” about 11.30am on Friday when they observed an exchange on Newcastle St at Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast.

Officers saw a man placing a bag in a parked vehicle before riding away on a motorbike.

They then intercepted the vehicle and located 2.1kg of methamphetamine, 22.6 grams of heroin, a small quantity of cannabis and cash, mobile phones, a taser and flick knife.

A 46-year-old man allegedly driving the vehicle was then taken into custody.

Queensland Police located 2.1kg of methamphetamine, 22.6 grams of heroin, a small quantity of cannabis and cash, mobile phones, a taser and flick knife.

He has been charged with three counts of possessing dangerous drugs, two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, one count of supplying dangerous drugs, one count of possessing a thing used in the commission of a crime, one count of possessing property suspected to be the proceed of crime and one count of possessing utensils.

While a search of the vehicle was underway, a man approached officers and allegedly said his backpack was inside it.

Police allege the 37-year-old was the driver of a stolen motorbike seized in the area.

He was also taken into custody and has been charged with one count each of possessing dangerous drugs, supplying dangerous drugs, possessing a thing used in crime, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and disqualified driving.

Both men are scheduled to appear before Cairns Magistrates Court on Saturday

Investigations are ongoing and police urge anyone with relevant information to come forward.
