A woman that was mauled to death by her dog had been attacked by the same pit bull mastiff cross just weeks before.

South Australian Christine Kulis, 39, died on Thursday following an attack from her “mad” dog which had terrorised neighbours in Whyalla, SA for years and she had been warned to put down.

Police and paramedics rushed to the scene at Murphy Crescent in Whyalla Stuart around 4pm, but the woman could not be saved.

The victim’s mother, Meredith Howe, has been left distraught over the devastating incident.

“I told her she should have had that dog put down, but Christine didn’t want to,” she told Daily Mail.

Ms Kulis’ close friend Alison Erskine revealed that the same dog had tried to rip her arm off just weeks prior to the fatal incident.

“It bit through the tendons so they flew her to Adelaide and she stayed in hospital,” Ms Erskine told the Daily Mail.

“When she came back (to Whyalla) she wasn’t the same person, she was so thin and withdrawn.”

Despite the red flags from concerned friends and family members, Ms Kulis insisted on keeping the dog that she and her partner had bred.

“That dog is mental, it’s mad - I told her and (Arlan) Potter they should have it put down but they wouldn’t,” she said.

“The mother is sweet, but her son, this dog, was mad. I came out of the bathroom and it went for me once.

“I told them I didn’t want to be around it.”

When the concerned friend arrived to Ms Kulis’ residents on Thursday, she was greeted by a horrid sight of Mr Potter “covered in blood”.

“He told me the dog attacked Chrissy. Police told me to move on so I shouted at Potter to tell Chrissy I would see her at the hospital,” Ms Erskine said.

“But then I found out that she had died.”

She leaves behind her partner of 10 years, Arlan Potter, that she had been engaged to.

Neighbours said they were not surprised the dog had turned on Ms Kulis following several past incidents’, with one revealed that she would not walk her dog past their property in fear of an attack.

“I told her she should get rid of him because of her health - that she should think about her own health instead of the animal’s,” a neighbour told The Daily Mail.

Ms Erskine said that Ms Kulis was an alcoholic and fallen terribly ill due to cirrhosis of the liver, and she failed to heed doctors warnings to give up drinking.

Her condition worsened to the point that Mr Potter would push her around in a trolley because she was unable to walk.

A Whyalla city council spokesperson confirmed on Friday that the dog, which had allegedly killed several of the neighbours pets, had been put down.
