A 29-year-old woman is in a critical condition after being hit by a truck on a major highway north of Adelaide.

The woman was hit at the intersection of Port Wakefield Hwy and Richardson Rd, Lower Light at 2.30am on Tuesday.

South Australia Police said the 29-year-old woman from Osborne was rushed to hospital.

The driver of the truck, a 38-year-old man from Unley Park, was uninjured and was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Police said he was assisting with the investigation.

About two hours earlier on the same highway, a 19-year-old woman was killed when her car collided with a concrete truck at the intersection of McEvoy Rd in Waterloo Corner.

Motorists are being advised Port Wakefield Hwy is currently closed for southbound traffic from Richardson Rd and diversions are in place.
