South Australian grandad killed in horror collision with truck at Cambrai mourned by ‘heartbroken’ family

A Sedan Grandfather is being remembered after tragically losing his life on Sunday.

A small regional community is mourning the loss of a treasured family man and dog lover after a collision involving a truck in South Australia.

Darren Pollard, 59, was killed and two others were injured following a collision of two cars and a truck on Ridley Rd in Cambrai, about 90km out of Adelaide on Sunday.

Pollard, from Sedan, died at the scene, while the truck driver, 33, and another driver, 69, of a Holden SUV, were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

In a Facebook message on Sunday, Pollard’s wife Jacqui-Lee said:

“It is with so much sadness that I write this post. On Sunday 18th May, my beautiful husband was killed in a road accident. He was just out doing a quick run to the shops and never made it home,” she said.

“I am totally devastated and can’t see a future without him. Our four children are equally devastated.

“Darren was the light of my life. He knew me better than any other person on this planet and always had my back. He loved me and his family without measure.

“Family to him was the most important thing. Darren spent his life helping others and always protecting those that were important to him. I don’t know how I’m supposed to go on without him.

“The world today lost a beautiful, gentle soul that can never be replaced. I am totally heartbroken.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up for the family as they make funeral arrangements.

His wife also thanked emergency services for their compassion and empathy when they told tell her the news about her husband.

Pollard’s dog, Ollie, is receiving care after being thrown from the car.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for the family as they make funeral arrangements.

Darren Pollard’s death takes the total of lives lost on South Australia’s roads to 31 so far this year.

The 33-year-old truck driver was charged with causing death and harm by dangerous driving and had his licence revoked.

He was granted bail and is due to appear in the Berri Magistrates Court in August.
