A young man has been airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries after falling from a car in South Australia.

The 20-year-old man from Golden Grove was the front passenger in a Toyota Ute when he fell from the moving vehicle and was run over, said SA Ambulance.

Emergency services were called to a home on Spiller Rd at Cobdogla in the Riverland region about 1.30am on Sunday, where they found the man with serious injuries.

He was initially taken to Riverland General Hospital before being airlifted to Royal Adelaide Hospital in a critical condition.

Police have not confirmed whether the ute crashed first or what caused him to fall.

The 21-year-old male driver from Waikerie is cooperating with police as they continue their investigation.
