Major parts of the country are set to swelter as temperatures rise for the start of November.

Millions of Australians will start to enjoy warm summer weather this week, with the mercury topping 30C across South Australia, Western Australia, Queensland and the Northern Territory.

A warm air mass is moving across the nation this week, bringing sweltering temperatures.

Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist Dean Narramore spoke about the surging temperatures — one month out from summer — on Sunrise on Thursday.

He said the first day of November on Friday would bring temperatures in the high 30Cs and low 40Cs through inland areas of Western Australia.

“For eastern Australia, particularly northern and eastern NSW and southern Queensland, it will be 5C to 8C above average temperatures today and tomorrow,” he said.

“(It will be) even hotter for eastern Australia on Sunday as the WA heat moves into the southeast.

“Looking further out, mid next week, we could see hotter temperatures in inland areas locking into the high 30Cs.”

Sunrise host Natalie Barr asked Narramore about strong winds, and who should be careful in relation to potential bushfire risks.

“The first front in WA will move through later on Friday — the focus will be for much of southwest parts of WA ... looking at extreme fire dangers there and warnings will be issued today,” he said.

“As we move into Saturday, the focus will be on southern South Australia including the Eyre Peninsula, the mid-north and the Victorian border, where extreme fire dangers are likely.

“Sunday, the focus will be on eastern Australia. At this stage (there could be) a lot of high fire danger but we are not expecting extreme fire dangers, but it is dependent on how the wind is on Sunday.”

Narramore said both minimum and maximum temperatures across the country were forecast to be above average thanks to warm ocean temperatures around western and eastern Australia, with the expectation of “a lot more sunny days in inland Australia”.

And for Halloween trick or treaters on Thursday evening, Narramore warned showers and thunderstorms were “whipping around” some capital cities “so check the radar if you are in Brisbane and Sydney as well”.

For the rest of Thursday, he said Canberra “should be looking good”, Melbourne would be “cool” and Hobart “even cooler, feels like autumn”.

Adelaide is forecast to be warm and sunny, and sunny also in Perth but it “may be a stormy one for Darwin for those going out trick or treating”.
