A signalling fault from one location in an Australian city has caused train chaos, with trains cancelling stops, holding between stations and leaving passengers waiting.

A fault in Granville has brought services between Central in Sydney’s CBD to multiple locations in Sydney’s west to a standstill.

Transport NSW told customers to: “Allow extra travel time due to urgent signal repairs at Granville.”

“Stops and platforms may change at short notice.

“Trips may take longer than usual.”

Multiple lines including the T1, T2, T5 and T9 have been effected, with customers told to reconsider there need for travel.

Some other lines have escaped the chaos, only due to scheduled works and planned bus replacement services.

It comes as the NSW Government and the Rail, Tram and Bus union continue to but head over a pay dispute that threatened to cancel Sydney’s iconic New Year’s Ever fireworks in late December.

“Every single week there are delays and cancellations,” one commuter said on X.

“The ones impacted the most are those in the lower socio-economic groups.”
