The older sister of an infant who was killed in a Hobart house fire on the weekend has also died, police have confirmed.

Emergency services were called to a house in the Hobart suburb of Rokeby on Sunday morning after a fire started during a children’s birthday party.

Fire crews found the home “fully alight” when they arrived. While they attempted to rescue those in the house, they discovered the body of 22-month-old Harlyn.

Four children — Harlyn’s five-year-old sister Jordan, a 16-month-old, a 10-year-old and a 14-year-old — were rushed to hospital along with a 30-year-old adult.

Tragically, Jordan has since died.

Tasmania Police released a statement confirming the tragedy.

“Sadly, the 5-year-old girl who was involved in a fatal house fire at Rokeby has passed away overnight,” the statement said.

“This follows the tragic death of her 22-month-old sister on Sunday.

“Our thoughts are with the girls’ family and loved ones at this difficult time.

“A 30-year-old remains in a stable condition in the Royal Hobart Hospital.”

Tasmania Police confirmed the other three children had been discharged from hospital.

The Tasmania Fire Service has determined the blaze was not suspicious and started in the lounge room.

Tasmania Police deputy chief operations Matt Lowe said the impacts of the fire had been felt by “so many”.

“I’d like to thank the local community for their assistance, especially the neighbours who came to the aid of those affected,” he said.

“The scene and investigation have been traumatic, and it’s had a significant impact on first responders who have done an incredible job under extreme circumstances. They are commended for their actions.”

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
