A child has died after an alleged hit and run on a Victorian road.

Victoria Police believe the boy was struck by a vehicle while he was walking to school in Teesdale on Thursday morning.

The tragedy unfolded around 8am, 30km north west of Geelong.

CPR was performed in a desperate attempt to save the boy, however, he later died at the scene.

“The vehicle involved left the scene,” a Victorian Police spokesperson said.

Shortly after the incident, police located the vehicle at an address in Teesdale.

The female driver is assisting police as they work to determine the exact circumstances.
