Two men are missing after a car crashed into the Macdonald River near Wisemans Ferry in northern Sydney late Wednesday night.

Emergency services were called to the area around 11.50pm, following reports that a vehicle had entered the river near Settlers Road, St Albans, approximately 20km north of Wisemans Ferry.

Upon arrival, officers attached to Hawkesbury Police Area Command found a car submerged in the river.

A man in his 20s, believed to be a passenger in the vehicle, managed to escape and reached the riverbank. He was assessed at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics but did not require further treatment.

“Police have been told two other men were in the vehicle at the time and are yet to be accounted for,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.

Emergency services, including the State Emergency Service (SES) and NSW Rural Fire Service, have launched a search operation across the area to locate the missing men.

The incident comes as residents across New South Wales brace for further severe weather, with meteorologists warning of more rain and the risk of minor to moderate flooding in parts of Greater Sydney and the state’s north.

The heaviest rainfall is expected Thursday morning, with some areas predicted to see up to 120mm, though the exact impact remains uncertain.

Authorities are appealing for anyone with information about the crash to contact Hawkesbury Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, with all information to be treated confidentially.
