Bendigo, Victoria: Child dies after being hit by a truck on way to school near Girton Grammar

A child has died after being hit by a truck on their way to school in Bendigo on Friday morning.

Emergency services responded to a fatal collision around 8.30am.

“A truck has collided with a pedestrian on High Street,” a Victoria Police spokesperson said.

“A passerby commenced CPR, but the yet to be formally identified pedestrian has died at the scene.”

The crash happened near Girton Grammar, with students from prep to year 12 attending.

Senior Sergeant Ian Brooks told the Bendigo Advertiser it was a “hugely distressing situation”, and believed the boy attended a local school.

“That school community is going to be heavily impacted by this,” he said.

The truck driver was not injured and is assisting police with their inquiries.
