Police are investigating after a customer claimed they found a needle in mince bought from Aldi.

The meat was purchased from a store in Keilor East, Melbourne on September 23.

It is unsure how big or how many of the dangerous items were found in the meat, but the report was enough of a concern to get police involved.

Anyone found contaminating food products can face up to 10 years in jail, police said.

“Police are investigating after a foreign object was found in a meat purchased from a supermarket in Keilor East on 2 October,” a spokesperson said.

“In general produce contamination, i.e. an item of machinery in processed food, should be reported to local councils in the first instance.”

Police told 7NEWS they want to speak to anyone else who has found a stray item in any meat products to determine if it is a one-off or part of a wid

It’s not the first time Victoria Police have investigated the presence of needles in food in Melbourne.

In 2019, the dangerous object was found in strawberries on two separate occasions.

The year prior there was a nationwide food safety crisis after a number of strawberries grown in Queensland and Western Australia were found to be contaminated with sewing needles.
