As diplomatic talks continue in Qatar to end the war in the Middle East, US President Donald Trump says things are progressing well with Iran.

A shocking and explicit statue depicting Donald Trump and Anthony Albanese has been swiftly removed from a Melbourne park after appearing overnight, with police now investigating the stunt.

Commuters were left stunned on Friday morning when they discovered the provocative installation in Gordon Reserve, directly opposite Victoria’s Parliament House.

The piece showed the US President standing over a kneeling Australian Prime Minister, with a fountain feature spraying water from Mr Trump’s waist toward Mr Albanese.

A plaque attached to the work, titled The Golden Opportunity, included the crude inscription: “May I lick your boots, boss?”

The controversial display was later claimed by activist art collective The New Radicals, which has a history of staging politically charged public installations.

City of Melbourne workers moved quickly to dismantle the unauthorised structure, which had been erected on an improvised base connected to a water outlet, allowing it to function as a fountain.

“On Friday morning, the City of Melbourne became aware of an unauthorised installation in Gordon Reserve. Council officers immediately attended the scene to remove the installation,” a spokesperson said.

“Council is also reviewing Safe City Camera footage and will provide relevant material to Victoria Police upon application.”

Police confirmed officers were called to the site on Spring Street shortly after reports emerged of the statue’s sudden appearance.

“Officers responded promptly to reports of the incident, and with assistance from local council, the statue and plinth were dismantled,” a spokesperson told The Nightly.

“Investigators are working to determine whether any offences have been committed.”

Authorities have urged anyone who witnessed the installation, or who may have dashcam or CCTV footage, to contact Crime Stoppers.

Images taken during the removal revealed the piece was constructed from painted mannequins rather than a permanent sculpture.

The New Radicals have previously drawn attention with a series of controversial political stunts, including an explicit statue targeting Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles outside his Geelong electorate office, branding him “Australia’s biggest brown-noser”.

The group has also installed other provocative displays, including a mock submarine referencing the AUKUS deal and a satirical disposal bin outside Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan’s office.

Despite the swift removal, the latest stunt sparked mixed reactions online, with some Australians calling it “hilarious” while others questioned whether such provocative political art crosses the line.
