Once there, they arrested a 27-year-old man, but he quickly became unwell and unresponsive.

Police called for medical assistance and gave the man CPR, but he died at the scene.

They believe he ingested a substance.

Five police officers who were in the home were taken to hospital as a precaution.

It is not yet clear the nature of the ingested substance, or what police were investigating at the home.

Homicide squad detectives will investigate with oversight from the professional standards command, which is standard practice when someone dies in police custody.
