Two people fighting for life as shots fired on Melbourne freeway, leading to major crash.

A man has been found with gunshot wounds after a crash on a major Melbourne route that has left an 18-year-old woman fighting for life.

A truck and car collided on the Hume Hwy exit ramp and Cooper St in Epping at about 9.30pm on Monday.

One of the occupants inside the car, a 23-year-old man, was found with serious injuries including gunshot wounds and taken to hospital, police say.

An 18-year-old woman also travelling in the car suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash.

“The driver of the truck was not injured and remained on the scene,” police said.

Police do not believe the truck driver was involved in the events leading up to the 23-year-old being shot.

A car was found on fire a short distance away on Cooper St, with investigators now working to determine if it is linked to the collision and shooting.

Police have established a significant crime scene.

The exact circumstances of the incidents are yet to be established, and investigations are ongoing.
