The incident just after 6.30am on Monday is one of a string of alleged carjackings in recent days.

Stephanie had placed her four-year-old sons into the back seat ready for school and ducked to the front door of her home to check on her eldest child.

A security camera from a nearby property showed how, in a flash, two males arrived in a Toyota Yaris and jumped into her vehicle before driving off.

“(It was) horrifying,” Stephanie told 7NEWS.

“I can’t describe to you how scared I was.”

The toddlers were allegedly driven about two kilometres away and abandoned at two different spots by the side of Cookes Rd.

It was a torturous 40 minutes before they were reunited with their parents.

“Just relief. I don’t think you can describe what you feel (when you get them back),” Stephanie said.

The children were not physically harmed but their mum said they know something is wrong.

“They’re four. They think of it as a story. They think it’s just another story to tell. I don’t think they have the understanding of what could have happened,” Stephanie said.

The Yaris and the Territory later collided with each other, causing the former to finish in a ditch, Victoria Police said.

A 23-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl in the Yaris were arrested and released pending summons.

The stolen Ford Territory and two males are still missing.

Stephanie said it was relief to have her boys back, safe at home.

It comes after two men allegedly tried to break into a car while a man, woman and child were inside.

The car was parked in the driveway of a home on Nicholas St in Ashburton on Sunday when a stolen Mercedes Benz parked behind them.

“Two male offenders allegedly exited the vehicle and attempted to open the car doors, but they were unsuccessful,” Victoria Police said.

“The 38-year-old Ashburton man reversed his vehicle, hitting the Mercedes before it fled from the scene.”

In a third incident, a Nissan X-Trail was allegedly snatched in Lynbrook on Monday.

Police spotted the vehicle on James Cook Dr just before 1am on Tuesday and monitored from the air as it “travelled at a fast rate of speed on the South Gippsland Hwy and Monash Fwy”.

“Tyre deflation devices were deployed multiple times, however the Nissan continued to drive towards Melbourne’s CBD,” police said.

Officers swopped on three males and a female when the Nissan stopped at a dead-end on Davidson St in South Yarra.

A 13-year-old boy from Dandenong and a 16-year-old boy from Horsham were charged with attempted carjacking, armed robbery, dangerous driving whilst being pursued by police, reckless conduct, unlicenced driving, burglary and theft of motor vehicle.

A 15-year-old boy from Dandenong was charged with attempted aggravated burglary, theft and theft of motor vehicle.

A 15-year-old girl from Preston was charged with aggravated burglary, theft of motor vehicle and reckless conduct..
