A lifeguard has been injured in an attack while patrolling a swimming pool in Melbourne’s southeast.

The 19-year-old man was on duty at a local Narre Warren swimming pool on Park Rd when he was approached by a group of eight youths and attacked about 5.50pm on Sunday.

He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“The group of up to eight offenders fled the scene and were last spotted heading along Overland Dr toward Fountain Gate Shopping Centre,” police said.

“The group were perceived to be of Middle Eastern appearance.”

The group remain on the run, with police urging anyone who witnesses the attack or has any information on the group to contact Crime Stoppers.
