A child has died and a man has been ‘seriously’ injured after a blaze engulfed a home.

A child has died and a man has been seriously injured after a fire engulfed a home in Melbourne’s south-west on Monday morning.
Emergency services rushed to the single-storey home on Newbury Street in Werribee around midnight after receiving multiple calls to triple-0.
Fire Rescue Victoria said a child had tragically died in the fire despite the efforts of 40 firefighters who battled the blaze.

“Firefighters arrived on scene to find a single-storey brick home, approximately 20m by 15m, fully involved with fire.”
Victoria Police confirmed in a statement that the child was found dead inside the house and a critically injured man was taken to hospital.
“Crews extinguished the blaze, which had fully engulfed the home, before locating a child deceased inside,” the force said.
“A male resident was taken to hospital with serious injuries.”
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control at about 1.13am.
Police are continuing to investigate the blaze but it is not being treated as suspicious.
