Police allege the teenager threatened to kill during the flight before barricading himself inside the toilet.

He was eventually restrained halfway through the flight, police said.

When the plane landed in Melbourne, Australian Federal Police officers boarded the flight and arrested the teenager.

He was charged with a string of offences, including one count of assaulting person, being a member of the crew of the aircraft, one count of threaten to kill or injure anyone on board an aircraft and one count of commit an act of violence against a passenger on the aircraft.

He appeared at Melbourne Magistrates Court on June 6 and has been remanded to reappear on August 28.

AFP Superintendent Stephen Cook said the man’s alleged behaviour would have been concerning for other passengers on board the flight.

“Being in the air does not give someone a free pass from the law and consequences on the ground,” he said.

“The AFP works closely with airlines to ensure the safe travel of people across Australia and will put people before the courts if they are accused of breaking the law.”
