Pakenham crash: Man dies after crashing car into supermarket wall during early hours of morning

A man has died after crashing his car into a supermarket in Melbourne during the early hours of Saturday morning.

Victoria Police say the man was driving along Olympic Way in Pakenham when his car left the road and crashed through the back wall of a supermarket about 3.50am.

“The force of the crash caused part of a concrete wall to collapse onto the vehicle, trapping the man inside,” police said.

The man died at the scene and is yet to be formally identified. He was the only person in the car at the time of the crash.

Police say there were several supermarket staff members inside the store at the time, but they all escaped injury.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal crash.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be established and police will prepare a report for the coroner,” Victoria Police said.
