Police investigate reports woman stabbed on train near Melbourne’s Sunshine Station

A witness to an alleged attack on a moving Melbourne train has described the horror as a woman was reportedly “stabbed”.

The incident unfolded on a V/Line train near Sunshine Station about 11.40am on Monday.

A parent on the service told 7NEWS.com.au the victim was stabbed in the face by another woman “who seemed to be on drugs”.

“Nobody could help her. It was devastating to see this happen on a train where I was travelling with my two-year-old son,” the witness, who asked not to be named, said.

Victoria Police have not spoken on the nature of the attack but said the victim received minor injuries and that an investigation is underway.

“It was reported the offender left the scene before police arrived,” a police spokesperson said.

“Police spoke with the victim who was treated by ambulance paramedics.”

Paramedics were called to the Melbourne suburb of Sunshine about 11.50am.

One person was taken by road to Sunshine Priority Primary Care Centre, which is described as a clinic for non-life-threatening emergencies.

Transit Safety Division officers are investigating and anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers.
