A prankster has been badly burned in a wild stunt that backfired spectacularly, with the drama unfolding in front of tens of thousands of stunned fans.

Comedic duo Marty and Michael were guest performers of Nitro Circus at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium on Saturday when their routine prank went down in flames.

“It’s a stunt we’ve done a few times, we’ve practised it but during the show I completely messed up,” one of the performers said.

The act involved Michael streaking while Marty played a disgruntled security guard chasing him down with a fiery whip.

The burning whip was supposed to go out once Marty cracked it, but instead the flaming rope became tangled around Michael’s neck.

“My response was to try and get it off my neck but it was wrapped around my neck to the point where I couldn’t get it off straight away,” Michael said.

The incident singed his skin and left him in hospital for the weekend. The pair have since flown home to Brisbane.

“Lucky it’s no surgery needed, it’s just minor so grateful for that,” Michael said.

Marty and Michael have more than 10 million followers across multiple platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube, where their videos have been watched more than 500 million times.

Whip pranks and challenges are a regular part of their content, but they say it might be time to retire such stunts.

“We’ll just stick to hitting each other with balls and sticks from now on,” they said.
