Single pothole leaves 28 drivers stranded on Princes Freeway
A single pothole has caused highway havoc in leaving dozens of cars instantly undriveable and at least 28 drivers stranded in dangerous conditions.
The Princes Freeway at Nar Nar Goon, 60km southeast of Melbourne, turned into pit lane as car after car struck the hazardous pothole, with repairs dragging into a second day due to heavy rain.
Bronwyn Drummond and her three children were just 10 minutes from their Pakenham home when heavy rain set in, making it near impossible to see the hazard ahead.

“You know, it was just car after car after car. Never seen that before.”
“I just kept saying, ‘keep your seatbelts on’.”
Nar Nar Goon mechanics were on Sunday dealing with the aftermath, repairing everything from flat tyres to bent rims and damaged suspension components.
Heavy rain has delayed repairs, but the Department of Transport assured motorists that the pothole would be fixed by the end of the day.
While Drummond managed to make it home in one piece, she’s been left with a repair bill she fears she can’t afford.
“Anywhere from about three, four grand just for this pothole. We’re going to have to find the money to pay for it. We don’t have it,” she said.
Affected drivers can visit transport.vic.gov.au to apply for compensation.
