A visit to camping ground has ended in tragedy after a massive tree branch crushed a car, killing a man and injuring a teenager.

Police responded to calls for assistance and were confronted with a horrific scene before confirm the death of the the man in Yarrawonga on Tuesday night.

Emergency services were called to the camping area at Loop Track amid reports a large tree branch had fallen onto a moving vehicle during a significant weather event about 7.10pm.

The driver, a man who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene and a teenage boy was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while the woman was taken to hospital for observation.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined and police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
