Virgin Australia flight VA697 from Melbourne to Perth forced to make emergency landing after engine issue

Holidaymakers’ plans have been postponed after a commercial plane was forced to make an emergency landing.
A Virgin Australia flight from Melbourne to Perth was diverted after crew members reported an engine issue.
After taking off at 6.05pm, the plane was in the air for about 44 minutes before landing back at Melbourne Tullamarine Airport.

“Virgin Australia flight VA697 to Perth returned to Melbourne Airport this evening after the crew reported an engine issue,” they said, according to The Age.

The typical journey between Melbourne and Perth takes about four hours.
After landing, the plane was met by firefighters and paramedics, in line with emergency landing protocols.
It is understood there was no evidence of the engine catching fire.
Virgin Australia chief operations officer Chris Snook issued an apology to guests.
“We apologise to guests for the disruption and thank them for their understanding,” he said.
The runway was closed for inspections and passengers onboard were rescheduled for a later flight on Monday evening, which is believed to have departed at 9.45pm and arrived in the West at 11.42pm local time.
