A three-metre saltwater crocodile has shut Cable Beach to swimmers for the next 24 hours after the predatory reptile was spotted swimming at the world-famous tourist spot earlier this morning.

The crocodile was spotted in the Broome crocodile control zone approximately 1.5km north of the rocks on Cable Beach at around 7.50am this morning.

In response, Shire of Broome rangers have closed Cable Beach to swimming, fishing, and other water activities between the surf club and Coconut Wells for the next 24 hours.

The beach itself remains open, including to 4WD vehicles and camels.

Parks and Wildlife Service rangers are patrolling the area and are urging beachgoers to be cautious and stay well away from the water’s edge.

Crocodile sightings should be reported to DBCA Parks and Wildlife Service Broome on (08) 9195 5500.
