Chloe Mowday: Perth mum still ‘terrified’ and stranded as family face new fears in bid to bring her home

The family of Perth mum Chloe Mowday, who has been fighting for life in a Vietnam hospital after a routine cosmetic procedure went catastrophically wrong, say she is “doing better” but remains in a frightening and unstable condition as infection sets in and uncertainty mounts about how to get her home.
Chloe’s brother, Rod told PerthNow overnight that the 33-year-old underwent further surgery on her face in an attempt to remove spreading infection.
“It’s been a very big day, she is still extremely unwell” he said.

“She’s scared and just wants to go home.”
Rod said the family is now facing a new and unexpected hurdle trying to get Chloe home to Perth on a medical flight with he family meeting with doctors today in an attempt to get her home and in a Perth hospital.
“We were approached on Friday morning by some doctors from here that say they can help get her home,” he said.
“They are looking at her vitals today but this flight only goes once a week on a Thursday so hoping we can get her home soon to have care in one of our local hospitals.”
“Doctors in Vietnam are helping trying to get us home as they believe she would get better care in Australia.”
Chloe — a mother of three — travelled to Vietnam earlier this month for what was meant to be a family holiday and some minor cosmetic procedures involving her nose and eyelids.
Instead, her organs shut down on the way to hospital and she was left being placed into an induced coma.
Her family rushed to Vietnam to be by her side, but language barriers, rising medical costs and uncertainty around her treatment have added to the emotional toll, with her husband and son making Vietnam as their home base to be with Ms Mowday.
Doctors have since advised the family that Chloe has a stronger chance of surviving if she is brought back to Perth as soon as possible.
A fundraiser to cover the cost of a medical evacuation — expected to exceed six figures — continues to gain support from the WA community.
Rod said they are now focused on getting her home and well.
“It’s just been overwhelming,” he said.
“We’re doing everything we can to get her home safety.”
“Her toes are still black, she now has pneumonia, doctors tell me she has sepsis and infections throughout her body, we are all exhausted and just hoping for a miracle.”
“Her kidneys aren’t doing good, she is on dialysis everyday and blood transfusions. It’s a long road to recovery and we are just hoping we can get her home”
Adding that once in Australia, the family will have to organise a bed in ICU at one of the hospitals in Perth.
Rod landed in Vietnam on Wednesday and visited his sister who he says can only communicate with her eyes but is relieved she has come out of the coma.

“She cracked a smile at me when I walked in and we played a game of charades with our eyes.”
“I asked her if she would like to go home and she implied yes, I can see the desperation to get home in her eyes.”
Rod provided supporters of the Go Fund Me with an update on his sisters condition.
“Chloe is getting stronger every day, is awake and responsive at the moment and smiling. We are working with the hospital to determine when she is safe to fly.”
Rod is set to arrive back in Perth on Sunday and leave Chloe with her husband and kids anxiously anticipating for a medical flight back to WA.
