Driver dies in hospital after suffering medical episode in Erskine, south of Perth

The driver of a Honda Civic that smashed into a letterbox died within hours of the incident.

A driver has died in hospital after he suffered a medical episode behind the wheel and crashed his car into a mailbox outside a home south of Perth.

The crash involved a red Honda Civic and happened on Oakleigh Dr in Erskine just before 5.30pm on Monday.

The 84-year-old was treated at the scene by St John WA paramedics before he was taken to Peel Health Campus.

He later died in hospital, police said.

The Major Crash unit is investigating and has appealed for witnesses.
