It is understood he was a passenger on a bike his brother was driving before it flipped and crushed the Rockingham child.

“(The quad bike) just slipped off the pathway and into a rice field which was filled with water so Joshy was pinned underneath the bike with a harness on attaching him to the bike and in the water,” family friend BJ Ariasa said.

“So (his older brother) Luca ... pulled him out of the water with some kind of superhuman strength.”

He suffered a fractured skull and brain bleeding and was rushed to hospital.

“Joshy”, as he is known to friends and family, underwent brain surgery overnight and remains in an induced coma.

Family friends said he was meant to be playing in a soccer tournament in Bali in the coming days.

His futsal club, the Cockburn Wolves, called for prayers as the little boy fights for his life.

“One of our beloved little champions is currently undergoing neuro-surgery in Bali. During this challenging time, we invite everyone in our community to come together in solidarity and support,” the club said.

“The Wolves is an inclusive club and we call for all our members from any faith backgrounds to pray for healing and hold space in your heart for Joshy Schuetz and his family.”

Joshua is expected to be airlifted to Perth in the coming days.

The family’s insurance covers the flight but not the hospital bills.

A GoFundMe page has been launched to help the family with medical costs which have reached $60,000 and are “climbing by the hour”.

“Hundreds of prayers are over our sweet, funny, full of life Joshy. We just want him safe and healed,” campaign organiser Ariasa said.
