Shark attack reported at Pyramids Beach in Dawesville
A surfer who helped a 15-year-old boy after he was bitten by a shark at a beach south of Mandurah says the teen was the “gnarliest little dude” who stayed calm the whole time.
The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development said the male surfer was bitten by an unknown species of shark at Pyramids Beach in Dawesville about 5.40am Tuesday.
Local Jay Reeves was talking to two boys in the surf when one of the teens suddenly yelled that he had been bitten by a shark.

“When he lifted his foot out you could see the blood dripping from his foot. On his calf he had a laceration and a cut onto his foot as well.
“I left the boys to start the car because they had come on pushbikes.
“I ran over as he’s come out with blood dripping so I put him on my back and ran to the car. I got his foot wrapped up in a towel and chucked him in the car and took him straight to hospital.”
Mr Reeves said he wasn’t panicked as the 15-year-old who was bitten remained calm the whole time.
“He was the gnarliest little dude. He was absolutely so chill,” he said.
“I think the fact he was so relaxed and we just had to make sure he was ok so there was no panic at all.”
The teen is in a stable condition at Peel Health Campus.
City of Mandurah rangers have closed Pyramids Beach to 1 km either side.
