A man has been found two days after going missing in the remote Western Australia outback.

The 71-year-old man had been travelling in a car with another man on Tuesday afternoon, when they became bogged on a dirt track in a remote area north of Murchison, near Byro Station, about four hours west of Carnarvon.

The second man left on foot towards Byro Station to seek help, but when he returned the following morning, the 71-yea-old man was gone, according to police.

It was believed he had left on foot about 9am on Wednesday, in an easterly direction towards Carnarvon-Mullewa Rd.

Police originally said there were “serious concerns for his welfare” and a search and rescue operation had been underway, which included aerial support from rescue planes.

Police confirmed the man was located “safe and well a short time ago”, south of Byro Station about 11am on Thursday.
