Despite the rare sighting, going through the Maccas drive-through one last time is apparently more common than you might think in the funeral industry.

One commenter said their family have run a funeral home for decades and this is “most likely a last request from family for a last meal or coffee run and pre-planned and organised with McDonald’s beforehand.

“Even if that appears strange to onlookers at the time.”

Another person who “once worked as a funeral directors assistant” said that funeral homes have strict rules.

“The only time we would be doing this is if it is the last request of the family. As we can not even stop for fuel if we have a passenger on board.”

A former McDonald’s manager chimed in as well and said that she’s seen hearse’s come through more than once.

“I had a funeral home call my store on more than one occasion notifying us they would be coming through in a hearse, family’s wishes, for the deceased’s last coffee run.”

A mother told the story of when she was waiting to wave her daughter off to her cremation and caught the funeral home going through the drive-through.

“It was crazy”, she said, “was like our daughter was saying one final goodbye. We honestly loved it.”

One commenter added to the discussion with a photo of a McDonald’s cup placed on top of a coffin in a hearse and said: “How about a maccas cup on a coffin...”

Someone responded to the crazy photo saying they’d love a flat white on their coffin after they die.

“Might request that in my will!”, they said.
