He was treated at the scene and taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

Police believe the man was assaulted while on his regular morning walk, however investigators were unable to speak to him.

Police were informed on Monday the man had died, prompting them to arrest the 45-year old man and charge him with murder and causing grievous bodily harm with intent to murder.

He was also charged with common assault over an unrelated incident in Guildford earlier in the month.

The man will appear before Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday.

Detectives initially executed a search warrant at an address in Carlingford in north-west Sydney at 2pm on Sunday, seizing several items believed to be linked to the incident.
