Young lawyer Mitch East killed in suspected hit-and-run in Sydney's east

A young lawyer has been killed in a suspected hit-and-run in Sydney’s east.
Mitch East was being dropped off by an Uber on Fletcher Street in Tamarama just after 4am on Sunday when police say he was hit by a car, which then drove away.
Paramedics performed CPR at the scene, however the 28-year-old was unable to be revived.

He was also a senior advisor on the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Christchurch terrorist attack. He moved to Australia in 2022 and took a job with NSW law firm Arnold Bloch Leiber.
A spokeswoman for the firm said staff had been informed of the 28-year-old’s death on Monday morning.
“In an email sent to all staff this morning, Arnold Bloch Leibler’s managing partner Henry Lanzer and managing Sydney partner Paul Rubenstein paid tribute to Mitch, describing him as a highly talented lawyer and popular and valued member of the firm, whose loss will be deeply felt,” the spokeswoman said.
“The partners expressed heartfelt condolences to Mitch’s parents, his partner and many close friends, both within and outside of (the firm).”
NSW police have formed Strike Force Dunguid to investigate the circumstances surrounding the young lawyer’s death, but they are yet to make any arrests.
