A portable blender sold nationwide has been urgently recalled over fears it may overheat and catch fire.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s Product Safety issued a recall notice for the BlendJet BlendJet 2 portable blender on Friday after injuries were reported.

The recall states there is a risk the metal blades “may break while the blender is in use” and the blender “may overheat and catch fire when charging or while in use”.

“There is a risk of serious injury from choking or lacerations if broken blade pieces become mixed with food or drinks and consumed,” it said, as well as a “risk of serious burn injuries or property damage if the blender overheats or short circuits and catches fire”.

“Fires with associated burn injuries and property damage have occurred.”

Customers are advised to “stop using the blender immediately” and check their serial number here to see if a unit is impacted.

Blenders with serial numbers between 5201000000 and 5542999999 may be affected. Serial numbers can be found printed on the bottom of the base.

Impacted devices were sold at retailers including but not limited to The Good Guys, Kitchen Warehouse, Myer, Harvey Norman, JB HiFi and Costco, between October 2020 and November 2023.

BlendJet 2 units currently for sale online and in-store are not impacted by the recall.
