“The Saturn team is shocked and saddened and our deepest thoughts and condolences go out to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased worker,” the company’s managing director Ian Bamborough said.

Senior management from the West Perth-based company arrived at the site late on Thursday and WorkSafe WA investigators will attend on Friday.

WorkSafe Commissioner Sally North offered her deepest condolences to the worker’s loved ones and colleagues.

“I assure the community that WorkSafe will thoroughly investigate the circumstances that led to this tragic loss,” she said.

“WA Police have attended the scene and WorkSafe inspectors will travel from Perth to the site. WorkSafe is unable to provide further details while its investigation is ongoing.”

Work at the site has been suspended “until further notice” and counselling has been provided to those who need it.

According to Saturn Metals, the Apollo Hill Project “comprises 29 highly prospective gold exploration and prospecting licences”.
