Nearly half of Aussie workers considering a side hustle to bolster budgets, according to a new Amazon report

Nearly half of Australian workers are considering taking on side hustles within the next six months to bolster their budgets, while nearly two-thirds would consider extra work to support rising costs, a new report from online retail giant Amazon has revealed.

Meanwhile 46 per cent would consider a side hustle to boost savings and 32 per cent to help fund a holiday, according to the new research conducted by YouGov and released by Amazon Australia to be released on Friday.

High-income earners were most likely to consider seeking out additional revenue opportunities (48 per cent) compared to those with lower incomes (36 per cent) in the next six months.

The Amazon data comes after the Australian Bureau of Statistics earlier this month revealed there were 974,000 multiple job-holders in March.

This was up 1.2 per cent from December when there were 962,000 multiple job-holders.

Amazon Australia delivery and supply chain general manager Anthony Perizzolo said the latest research showed Australians were increasingly looking for ways to earn additional income when it suits them.

Amazon is gearing up for its Prime Day shopping event next month and said it had work on offer in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth as part of its Flex network. Amazon Flex allows Australians to earn extra money by using their own vehicles to deliver packages.

Since November last year, Perth-based Quentin Wright has been doing three shifts a week delivering packages for Amazon. “It supplements the income rather than doing nothing, I’d like to be doing something,” he said.

“I have been working out on the farms, doing seasonal work out there ... my wife said to find something a bit closer to home.”

Mr Perizzolo said Flex provided Australians with “an easy and convenient way to earn extra money in their spare time”. “From parents working around school hours, to those saving up for something special, Amazon Flex offers earning opportunities that are flexible, accessible and reliable,” he said.
