Budget Busters: How to avoid rising electricity bills in WA

7NEWS presenter Graeme Butler has revealed “the solar step” for WA homeowners who are looking to bring down electricity bills.

On his Butler’s Budget Busters segment this week, he spoke to Climate Change Authority employee Matt Kean, who explained how greater energy security and massive savings can be achieved through a solar storage unit for homeowners who already have solar panels.

Natural Solar’s chief officer, Chris Williams confirmed the eye-watering amount some families are saving each year.

“In some instances you can save a household between six and seven thousand dollars per year” Mr Williams says.

Butler spoke to homeowner Greg Spencer, who was looking to become self sufficient, avoid rising electricity prices and grid instability when he installed the next generation Tesla Powerwall three.

“We have two electric vehicles, two young kids using a lot of power and we have just added a pool into the backyard,”

Through the installation of a solar storage unit Mr Spencer and his family are now “self-sufficient nine months of the year”.

Butler explains that WA’s energy providers have the lowest solar feeding tariffs in the nation.

This means West Aussies are better to use or store their power rather than “pumping it back into the grid”.
